Align Extends Direct Sales & Clinical Support to General Dentists

Align Extends Direct Sales & Clinical Support to General Dentists Santa Clara, Calif., Apr. 9, 2002 - Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN), the inventor of Invisalign®, an orthodontic appliance used to straighten teeth without wires and brackets, announced today it will assume all marketing and clinical support responsibilities for general dentists in the United States and Canada. Previously, Invisalign certification, marketing and clinical support was available to general dentists via Align's exclusive marketing agreement with Discus Dental, a provider of aesthetic and clinical dental products. Align has now exercised its right to terminate the agreement with Discus.

Through its prior agreement with Align, Discus conducted Invisalign training of approximately 3,000 general dentists over the last six months. Align retained all responsibility for field sales, marketing and clinical support to its existing customer base of orthodontists. Align will now extend those sales, marketing and support programs to general dentists, and will coordinate all future training and certification for doctors interested in treating with Invisalign.

"Align is committed to providing the best possible service to our customers," said Align President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Prescott. "We look forward to growing our relationships in the general dentist community, and to sharing Align's high quality customer programs with all Invisalign doctors."

About Align Technology, Inc.

Align Technology designs, manufactures and markets Invisalign, a proprietary method for treating malocclusion, or the misalignment of teeth. Invisalign corrects malocclusion using a series of clear, comfortable and removable appliances that gently move teeth to a desired final position. Because it does not rely on the use of metal or ceramic brackets and wires, Invisalign significantly reduces aesthetic and other limitations associated with braces. Invisalign is appropriate for treating adults and older teens. Align Technology was founded in March 1997 and received FDA clearance to market Invisalign in 1998.
