Align Technology Ships One Millionth Aligner

Align Technology Ships One Millionth Aligner Santa Clara, Calif. - August 30, 2001 -- Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN), the inventor of the Invisalign® System, a proprietary method of straightening teeth without unsightly wires and brackets, reached a significant company milestone today with the shipment of its one millionth custom-made aligner. Align began using the nearly invisible aligners in July 1998 to successfully treat malocclusion, or misalignment of teeth.

In less than two years, Align has successfully met the initial challenges of quickly, accurately and economically scaling up key areas of production to mass manufacture this custom-made product. Align has developed new technologies and processes to accurately capture dental anatomy, perform orthodontic treatments digitally, and translate that digital information into a series of clear, nearly invisible orthodontic appliances, or aligners.

"This milestone confirms Align's unique ability to combine cutting edge technology, orthodontic expertise and mass production to impact a dental industry that has seen few significant technological advances in the past several decades," said Zia Chishti, chairman and chief executive officer of Align Technology. "Shipping our one millionth customized aligner is evidence of both our manufacturing progress and the enthusiastic consumer demand for Invisalign."

About Align Technology

Align Technology designs, manufactures and markets the Invisalign System, a proprietary new method for treating malocclusion, or the misalignment of teeth. The Invisalign System corrects malocclusion using a series of clear, nearly invisible, removable appliances that gently move teeth to a desired final position. Because it does not rely on the use of metal or ceramic brackets and wires, the Invisalign System significantly reduces the aesthetic and other limitations associated with braces. Invisalign is appropriate for treating adults and older teens. Align Technology was founded in March 1997 and received FDA clearance to market the Invisalign System in 1998.
